Web9 Jan 2014 · The Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) is widely used in Scotland to identify small area concentrations of material deprivation. It has also been used to identify individuals eligible for health promotion campaigns. Webis a Scottish Government tool for identifying places in Scotland suffering from deprivation. Previous SIMD statistics have been published in 2016, 2012, 2009, 2006 and 2004. 4.2 SIMD 2024 is calculated using 2011 data zone boundaries. These data zones are based on the 2011 Census and were introduced in November 2014.

Each of Scotland’s 6,976 data zones are ranked from 1 to 6,976, with 1 being the most deprived and 6,976 the least deprived. Datazones are a statistical geography with an average population of around 750. There are 214 datazones in the Falkirk Council area.
