This coil is held together by hydrogen bonds between the oxygen of C=O on top coil and the hydrogen of N-H on the bottom coil. Webβ -Sheets are formed by the interactions between parallel regions of a protein chain. These either run in the same direction, parallel; or in the opposite direction, antiparallel. These structures are stabilized by hydrogen bonds between backbone carbonyl oxygen atom and the hydrogen of the amino group.
