WebTry toggling the 'automatically arrange' setting on and off. Right-click anywhere on your desktop and hover over 'view'. Turn on the auto arrange (it will slam everything to the left). Turn it back off. Move some icons around and then try your system after a reboot. Forgot to follow up, restarting with "auto arrange icons" on, did the trick.
